Tryout FAQ's

Who is eligible to tryout?

8th graders are eligible for the freshman team and freshmen are eligible for the JV team.  If there are not enough to make two squads, we will merge 8th graders and freshman to be one JV team.  Sophomores and Juniors are eligible for Varsity.  Freshman, Sophomores and Juniors are eligible for Mascot.

Students must be academically eligible according to U.I.L. standards, which are followed throughout the cheerleading season.

What are the skill requirements for JV?

Candidates wishing to tryout for JV squad need to have cheer abilities working towards a standing back handspring and a roundoff back handspring.

What are the skill requirements for Varsity?

Candidates wishing to tryout for Varsity are required to have a standing back handspring as well as a round off with 3 consecutive back handsprings working towards a standing back tuck and a round off back handspring, tuck.

What do I need to wear during tryout (clinic) week?

Appropriate attire would consist of a t-shirt and workout shorts (ie – Nike Shorts), and cheer shoes. Hair should be pulled back in a ponytail.

What do I wear day of tryouts?

White t-shirt and plain black shorts with no markings and cheer shoes. Hair needs to be in a ponytail.
